Just a little while ago, I was at my local corner store, when a full figured woman entered. She was complaining to the other patrons that the shirt that she was wearing made her look like
“A can of stuffed biscuits.” (Her exact words).
1. If she looked at herself in the mirror before leaving her home, why didn’t she change clothes?
2. If she knows she has self-esteem issues, she should not wear clothing that does not flatter her figure.
As a writer, you can be extremely confident that your work will be an instant success, a best seller! But if only a few copies sell, after you spent months if not years writing and perfecting your story, your confidence in what you do can be slashed.
Once this happens, doubt enters the picture. I’m sure you’ve all been there, I know I have. You have to say to yourself, ‘I’m a writer, and I’ll keep writing until I hit pay dirt.’
The biggest confidence problem that writer’s face, especially new writers, is that out of one thousand people, only ten of them may like the things you write and purchase your works.
We all want all one thousand of those people to make a purchase, but in the crammed full and over flowing world of writing, it just doesn’t happen anymore.
That’s why you have to stick to your guns and stay the course. What ever you write, keep on doing it! Eventually the tide will turn and the customers will come, and you’ll be glad you kept going forward and be more confidant when the big challenges come.
